As you may or may not have noticed the stock market is currently crashing. Which means its probably a good time to start buying some shares. All the prices are really low and so if you wait till it levels off (for the company you want) then you can buy some cheap shares and either keep them or sell them when they go back up.

A good place to get information and current stock prices would be Google Finance :)

You can buy stocks through your local bank but they sometimes charge small fee’s for their stock services but its the easiest way to buy your stocks from the comfort of your own home.

So what are you waiting for? Go out and buy some stocks :D

If your looking for a bit of spare cash then maybe buying and selling domains is a good idea. I found two NLL.info domains and sold them both and made a small profit of $4 which isn’t much but its only for a little bit of work.

They are not that hard to find and I found them via Oddity Software and if you find a three or four combo .com then you can make a few hundred profit.

I sold my domains on Digital Point Forums but there is also Namepros & SEDO.

So get searching and make some extra cash :)

Google Adsense… Everyone knows about them… Most pay per click publishers want to use them as they are the best if you want to earn more.

Now they have started something called “Smart Pricing” where if they think a website isn’t converting for their advertisers then they will “Smart Price” that publishers website, which in simple terms… they will lower the ppc price for that publisher e.g. $0.20 clicks would now be $0.02 clicks.

They have done it with a lot of websites and they will carry on doing it to a lot more. What does this mean for Google Adsense? Will more and more users stop using it? Will users improve their websites to try and not get Smart Priced.

Who knows what it will bring in the future?

I was looking round a few forums and found an interesting thread about how many servers Google owns. Its probably old news and has grown a bit since then but its news to me. So I thought I would do some research into it and found that there are estimated to be over 450,000 servers :|
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_platform

But that could be wrong but thats the best estimation at the moment… Now how much power would it take to run all that? It would cost to run it for the power somewhere along the line of $2,000,000 per month

There was also some people saying there was about a total of 4 Petabytes of RAM. Its hard to believe that Google make enough to run all those servers, buy out loads of websites, pay their publishers, pay their staff etc and still have plenty of money in the bank.

I bet most of those servers are for Google Search after all Google is the biggest search engine on the internet.

I have recently moved domain registrars and so I thought I’d post a quick article to do with domain registrars.

There are a few big domain registrars e.g. Godaddy and Namecheap etc.

I have had no experience with Namecheap but I have been with Godaddy before a few times. Personally I wouldn’t recommend Goddady for anything… There site has loads of problems, bad support and their control panel is rubbish.

I no longer use them for my domains. I have moved to DomainSite as a friend recommended them and their control panel is different from Godaddy but so far I have not had any problems with them.

One good thing about Godaddy is that they have loads of vouchers and different deals and so you can buy your domains cheaper which is probably why they got such bad support :(

A domain is normally under $10 per year and so its better going with someone good and so I would not go for prices… I would go for what others recommend.

I wouldn’t go for those websites that offer free domains as its not that easy to move it to a domain registrar if you need to renew it or if you are trying to sell your website.

Choosing a good web host is really important… If you pick the wrong host then you could loose customers, visitors or even your website :|

I have made a list below of what you need to be looking out for in a web host:

  • Uptime

You need to look on their website for there current uptime stats and if they have non then send them a message asking for it as otherwise you could find that they are down every other day.

  • Space, Bandwidth etc

You need to get the right amount of space, monthly bandwidth etc for your website. On the internet there are a lot of oversellers which promise a lot but they do not deliver it. You need to be careful with oversellers as they normally offer you an amazing deal but they are more likely to suspend your website or even shut down.

  • Reputation

The best hosts are normally the most well known and have the best reputation. If you want to know about a web host then you should visit a few forums e.g. 9mb – Webmaster Forum or Digital Point Forums and ask their members but remember every ones opinions are different.

  • Small & Large Hosts

This is kinda the same as reputation but you need to watch out for web hosting offers you see on forums. If you look on a forum and see a new host that has a few amazing offers e.g. 100GB space, 500GB monthly bandwidth for only $2.99 then I bet you that host will either suspend your site if you use “too much” of what they promise you or within a few weeks, they will shut down.

There are a few large well known web hosts that offer much more and they are less likely to suspend your site or shut down but in the end if you use “too much” of your plan… They will eventually suspend your website.

I am starting a blog to share my webmaster experience and to hopefully get a few friends and / random webmasters to also share their experiences now and again ;)

I will post about anything & everything (webmaster related) of course :D

I might also blog about something that you (viewers) want to know about sometime in the future.

Hopefully we can all make some $$ by you getting some tips from Monetize Guru :D

I should make a blog post every few days.
